A "handful" of lambs were put down after a stock-truck crash which closed Clinton Highway.
Emergency services were called to a rolled truck-and-trailer at 12.38pm yesterday on State Highway 1, between Clinton and Balclutha.
Police said the driver suffered minor injuries and spokesman later confirmed a stock truck was involved.
"There were about seven lambs reportedly injured. A handful had to be euthanised ... the rest of the sheep have been corralled without issue."
A Fire and Emergency NZ spokesman said the vehicle rolled at the Clifton Rd intersection with the highway.
The road was closed and diversions in place until about 6pm.
Fire crews from Waiwera South and Balclutha attended and assisted with traffic management. — APL
