Clutha Community Van Incorporated chairwoman Jenaya Smith said the $26,000 investment had been a major effort by the committee and others keen to see an improved vehicle with wheelchair hoist made available to the wider community.
Anyone with a specific health need or needing a wheelchair hoist for travel could hire the van from CHF, she said.
The "major effort" to get the van involved plenty of community research to see what was needed, while funding applications also had to be made.
Clutha Health Incorporated, Presbyterian Support Otago, Community Trust of Otago and the Clutha Licensing Trust all contributed to the purchase of the van and the money from the trade-in of the previous vehicle, plus some reserves, made up the total needed for the new asset, Ms Smith said.
The van seats seven people and has a wheelchair hoist at the back.
The majority of users to date have been from the town's two rest-homes, but Ms Smith any individual or group could make use of the van.
Anyone wanting to inspect or book the vehicle can contact CHF on (03) 419-0500.
