Police have named the man found dead in the Tokomairiro River on Tuesday.
He was Kenneth Roy Smith.
It appeared the man fell down a bank and into the river, and was later found by a family member who called emergency services.
Constable Will Pentelow, of Milton, said the 67-year-old's death was not suspicious and the coroner would investigate.
''It was a tragic accident.''
