New Catlins fire tanker

A remote Catlins fire brigade has been given an updated appliance it believes will provide a much better serviceto the area.

The Papatowai Volunteer Rural Fire Force recently took delivery of a 1995 Nissan Condor four-wheel-drive rural fire tanker, which replaces its 1979 Bedford tanker.

The $60,000 replacement tanker was half-funded by the Clutha District Council and the National Rural Fire Authority.

The council supports, trains and resources both the Papatowai and Waihola volunteer rural fire forces.

The council's Civil Defence and emergency services officer, Selwyn Vigers, said the upgraded tanker would further enhance what was already a very strong rural fire force at the Catlins township.

"With 15 volunteer rural firefighters already on its books, the force is well equipped to respond and this new tanker will ensure an even quicker and more efficient service," he said.
