The Clutha District Council has earned glowing reports about the way it processes resource consents.

Of consent applicants surveyed by the council, 98% described their experience as either satisfactory, good or excellent, with just 2% believing they were dealt with poorly.

The council had targeted a 65% satisfaction rate.

The findings were tabled at this week's regulatory services committee.

Staff randomly selected 30 applications and received 21 completed forms back.

Four came from individuals and 17 from surveyors or consultants acting on behalf of applicants.

Some of the resource consent applications were for land use, some for subdivisions and others were for a combination of land use and subdivision.

Survey respondents heaped praise on council staff for their helpfulness and they were also impressed by the council's website.

Others said the council's resource consent application form was clear and easy to use.

The majority of those surveyed (71%) said they were kept well informed of the progress of their application, that the consent decision was reasonable and the council's decision was adequately explained.

Even more (76%) thought the council was reasonable in the time it took to process an application.

The only areas to receive any poor rankings - 5% each - were the council's efforts to keep applicants updated on progress, the processing time and the consent fees.

Council planning and environment manager Murray Brass said the overall results were very satisfactory, which reflected well on staff and provided useful feedback that will help the council further improve its systems.
