South Otago’s motoring past was back on the road on Saturday as members of the South Otago Vintage Car Club gathered for their 53rd annual rally, setting off from Balclutha’s Town and Country Club.

"We have about 28 cars this year," club president Robin McCall said.

"Everybody’s getting a bit older and petrol’s getting very expensive."

Entrants came from as far away as Invercargill and Dunedin to enjoy the tour and have their driving times adjusted with points from a scenic scavenger hunt, for prizes at the end of the rally.

The longest of two routes was 116km, taking drivers through Clydevale and Rongahere, with a picnic lunch stop at Clinton artist Dave Mackie’s property.
