Mr Burgess said although the group was largely female, several husbands were also regular walkers. ``It's about staying active, socialising and having a few laughs. We try not to tackle too many hills, but you never quite know what's in store as somebody new chooses the route each time.''
As it met on Mondays, year-round, the group tended to attract retirees, Mrs Burgess said. The 25th anniversary celebration on May 28 began with a walk, and ended with refreshments. ``There's usually time for an ice cream or cup of tea at journey's end.''
