Rest home evacuated after electrical fire

A Balclutha rest home was evacuated in the early hours of this morning after a small electrical fire.

A Fire and Emergency New Zealand spokesman said firefighters from Balclutha and Kaitangata were called to Holmdene Rest Home on Elizabeth St after reports of a fire at 3.14am.

Upon arrival, firefighters found the source of smoke was a small heater fire, which was quickly extinguished, he said.
