South Otago High School's Young Enterprise group is surrounding itself with success as it looks to win the province's top prize for business innovation among school pupils.

Number plate surrounds proudly displaying the Clutha Country logo have been launched by the group as its business project.

The surrounds were bought from Christchurch and have the branding emblazoned on them with the "Where Everyone Says Hello" slogan.

Seven pupils act as directors and take on different responsibilities from coming up with the idea, to sourcing materials, overseeing production through to sales and marketing.

Co-director Charles Blair (17) said the group had launched a media campaign to raise the public's awareness of the surrounds.

This included radio and newspaper advertising, coverage in the school newsletter and articles in newspapers.

The group ordered 500 pairs and has already sold about 150 pairs.

The group is grateful for the support of its mentor, Balclutha accountant Tony Tourell and the guidance of the Otago Chamber of Commerce.
