Positively Clutha Women (PCW) treasurer Nyree Dickie said the group thought "long and hard" about the decision.
"It'll open up opportunities for other groups to run similar events which can be as successful."
PCW was created in 1998 to meet a need identified during the rural downturn of the mid-1990s. Mrs Dickie said many rural women then were facing increasing burdens as farm incomes dropped, and the balancing act of family, partner, work and farm commitments was becoming increasingly difficult.
"Add to this the lack of child-care facilities, the distance to services and opportunities that city people take for granted and you have a sector of the community with high stress levels, little support and low self-esteem."
The group aimed to motivate, teach new skills and empower women to cope better with their life situations. They also encouraged women to make positive decisions about their own and their family's future.
Each year, events and workshops would culminate in the Week for Women, when larger events - including the Topp Twins, a local version of Dancing With the Stars and several wearable arts shows - rounded off a week of arts, crafts, guest speakers and other workshops.
The group has hosted many speakers, including Outrageous Fortune actress Robyn Malcolm, Shortland Street actress Geraldine Brophy and Dame Susan Devoy.
Mrs Dickie said the opportunity to learn new skills had been "well utilised", with several workshops being the catalyst to the beginning of a new business.
"Empowerment at its very best," she said.
In a statement, the group said it felt the Clutha district was now providing a lot more of these opportunities itself.
"Women of the district have access to so much more information with the internet and other communication facilities that anything is possible from a rural setting."
As a parting gesture to the Clutha district and instead of providing events this coming year, Positively Clutha Women hopes to help other groups with their events by "imparting any networking information that could help set people in the right direction" or providing funding through a one-off grant to like-minded groups.
The group will call for grant applications later this year.
