Clutha Valley Primary School pupils Sophie Jack (6, left), Kooper Wheeler (7) and Dorothy Wilson (7) finally managed to get out and clean the roads last week as part of Keep New Zealand Beautiful, after the weather did not ''play ball'' during the first two attempts.

School teacher Reegan Tourell said the children, assisted by Danone contractors, spent Friday picking up rubbish and clearing roads near the school.

The pupils were surprised and disgusted at the amount of empty glass bottles and rubbish that had accumulated since last year's clean-up.
