An estimated 1000 South Otago schoolchildren of various ages converged on the Balclutha War Memorial Hall for a mass dance lesson by dance instructors Dean McKerras and Catherine Reid, who have been coming to South Otago every year in recent years to hold workshops for established dancers.
But every year, the South Otago Dance Group arranges for the pair to spread the word about dancing and allow scores of children to have a go too.
The "Dance Your Sox Off" event drew pupils all around the district with many teachers and parents also joining in.
Mr McKerras always enjoyed coming to the area and seeing the children's expressions.
