
"We’re attending more winter-related incidents, particularly cars sliding off roads, so the main thing is drive to the conditions," he said.
"That includes getting your vehicle checked and up to standard before the deep winter sets in.
"We are seeing vehicles with lights and windscreen wipers not working properly, and morning windscreens with only a tiny viewing area scraped through the frost.
"We like to have some leniency with time to get things seen to, but drivers can face up to a $150 fine if they’re not up to safe standard.
"We’re expecting a delivery of ice scrapers to give away free, so people can ensure their vehicles are fit for purpose, fully defrosted, wipers working and aware of conditions every time you set off in the morning.
"People feeling the cold brings an increase in rural fuel thefts, so ensure storage tanks and gates are locked, make sure security cameras are working.
