A Tuapeka Mouth woman whom police say was drunk behind the wheel of a vehicle and involved in a double fatality in May has been formally charged over the incident.
Anthony Calder (45) and Matthew Beaumont (14) were killed when the twin-cab utility vehicle they were in crashed into a bridge on Tuapeka Mouth Rd just before midnight on May 17.
An 11-year-old boy, seriously hurt in the crash, has since been released from hospital.
Senior Constable Robert Wallace, of Lawrence, yesterday confirmed a 37-year-old woman has been charged with two counts of driving with an excess breath-alcohol causing death and one charge of driving with an excess breath-alcohol level causing injury.
The woman has already briefly appeared before the Balclutha District Court registrar who has adjourned the matter until the court sits on August 12.
Snr Const Wallace would not comment further on the case and declined to reveal the woman's alleged breath alcohol level.
Those details may be released when she appears next month.
