Armed police surround  a Mavora Cres property in Invercargill yesterday afternoon.

Carrying guns, officers also laid road spikes on the street and ambulance and Fire and Emergency New Zealand crews were on hand.

A man in the area told the Otago Daily Times police were calling for an "Anthony" to vacate the premises.

Neighbours speculated on social media the callout might be in relation to the warrant to arrest Anthony Miles Tamaiti Watkins, who is sought by police in relation to a shooting in Kelvin St, Invercargill, on June 30.

The operation ended mid-afternoon and it was unclear if any arrests were made.

Police said no further information was available yesterday evening, but that an investigation was ongoing.
