Those at the council table last week discussed the allowances and expenses they could claim as elected members of council.
The main topic was the introduction of a child-care allowance.
The timing of its introduction was the focus; although it was proposed the incoming council would consider whether it supported it and what the details would be, Cr Lesley Soper thought it important and believed it would attract candidates.
"Therefore adding to the diversity we want to see at this council table."
She wanted certainty before the next triennium. An amendment was put for a staff report, and workshop would be held.
Cr Alex Crackett supported her.
"It is about equity and having the same opportunity right across the board, no matter who you are. That is a clear prohibitor."
The next local body election is set for October next year.
