Information sought as fatal crash investigated

Police are continuing to investigate a fatal crash which occurred on Monday night in Invercargill.

The crash was at the intersection of Nith and Bowmont Sts about 5.50pm on Monday.

One person was taken to hospital and died early on Tuesday, the police said in a statement.

An investigation is under way to determine the circumstances of the crash.

A second person who left the scene before police arrived had since been located and was helping the investigation team, the police said.

Police would like to speak with anyone who saw the crash, or who observed a blue 1988 Mitsubishi Mirage in the Newfield area about 4.30pm or in around Nith and Bowmont Sts before the crash.

They would not release any more information yesterday or say whether the crash was a hit-and-run.
