Man admits offering to supply cannabis

A man caught in possession of 569.38g of cannabis has admitted offering to supply cannabis to 38 people over a 20-month period.

Corbyn Williamson (21), of Invercargill, yesterday appeared in the Invercargill District Court before Judge Bernadette Farnan and pleaded guilty to offering to supply cannabis between August 28, 2020 and April 8, 2022.

Reading out the summary of facts, Sergeant Carmen Stewart said Williamson was found with $6645, 569.38g of cannabis, 15 LSD tablets and 7.78g of MDMA and utensils when he was stopped by police in May this year.

He was sentenced to four months’ community detention and 18 months’ intensive supervision regarding the possession of drugs and utensils in June.

During the search of the car in May, police seized two iPhones which they had forensically tested.

As a result of this testing, it was found Williamson made 45 offers to 38 different people to supply cannabis to persons via text and online messaging services.

"Twenty-two of these individuals have been identified as over the age of 18," Sgt Stewart said.

Yesterday, his counsel Scott Williamson said if the matter had been before the sentencing judge in June, it would not have increased his sentence.

Department of Corrections probation officer Pauline Elder said Williamson had completed his community detention sentence, gained full-time employment and had been fully compliant with all directions while on his sentence of supervision.

Judge Farnan said it was gratifying to see the progress Williamson had made since he was sentenced in June.

She cancelled his remaining supervision and sentenced him to 12 months’ intensive supervision with judicial monitoring.
