The man was found by Stewart Island LandSAR staff around 6pm on the coast of the Port Adventure area.
Sergeant Ian Martin said the man is currently being medically assessed, but is otherwise alive and well.
Search and Rescue were called to attempt to locate the man after he went missing 24 hours ago.
Police would like to thank all those involved with the successful search effort.
