The party was left scrambling to replace previous candidate Hamish Walker after the Clutha-Southland MP stepped down following his release of the personal details of Covid-19 patients.
A party spokeswoman refused to confirm the number of candidates remaining in the race for what should be a safe National seat, but said meet-the-candidates meetings for party members were under way.
"We should be able to name the new candidate within the next week."
Stuff reported Queenstown lawyer Joseph Mooney, Southland freelance journalist Olivia Caldwell and Dunedin restaurant manager Matthew French were among the candidates in the race.
Mr Mooney and Mr French did not return calls from the Otago Daily Times, while Ms Caldwell refused to comment.
