A man who stole a patrol car, two police glocks and then rammed another police car in Gore last year, was sentenced in the Invercargill District Court today.

Hori Gemmell (24), of Gore, was sentenced by Judge Bernadette Farnan to three years and one month jail.

Gemmell previously pleaded guilty to unlawfully taking a vehicle, two counts of unlawfully being in possession of a pistol, unlawfully possessing ammunition in public, two charges of theft from a car, and reckless driving.

A previous charge of aggravated assault had been withdrawn by police.

He was also disqualified from driving for two years and three months.

On August 14 last year Gemmell rammed a patrol car after police tried to stop his vehicle shortly before midnight in the Southland town.

He then then ran off, pursued by officers, who were also on foot.

He then circled back and stole their vehicle, which had the keys left inside, and rammed another police car before abandoning the vehicle and taking two police-issued Glock pistols from the car's lock-box, each containing 17 9mm rounds.

Police then launched a manhunt and a search for the postols during which Gemmell posted on social media.

He was arrested at a property in Te Tipua, near Mataura,
