Second fire at property investigated as suspicious

An investigation has been launched following a second blaze at a property in Gore.

A Fire and Emergency New Zealand spokesman confirmed it was treating the fire as suspicious.

An earlier fire damaged the same Hokonui Dr (State Highway 94) house in September.

Firefighters attended the scene from 2.50am yesterday.

"The structure was well involved in fire when the crew arrived.

"Gore asked for assistance so Mataura came to give them a hand."

Four appliances attended, as fire crews were concerned the fire could spread to neighbouring houses and undertook "an aggressive external attack".

"The fire was contained to just the one house, thankfully."

The fire was extinguished by 4.19am.

No-one had been reported on the property during the blaze and there were no injuries.

A scene guard was in place and a fire investigator examined the property yesterday.
