Mount Aspiring College student Cody Sherwin, of Hāwea, developed Pineapple Jobs with the help of his web designer mum, Amy Ballantyne.
The app was launched last week and has already started gaining traction with Hāwea and Wānaka locals.
Cody said it offered job listings such as lawn mowing, car cleaning, babysitting, house-sitting and gardening to teenagers.
"We’ve been amazed by the support and very grateful for the encouragement from the community," he said.
"Even people at school are interested in the app and think it’s pretty cool.
"People around the community that have busy days can just post a job that they want done and enthusiastic kids like me could do it."
After his mother posted about the app on Facebook, it started getting attention from locals but Aucklanders and Australians had since expressed interest in the app, and a Southland business owner was even looking to invest, Cody said.
Now with the fishing rod in hand, Cody said his sights were set on other hunting and fishing gear.
The name of the app, Pineapple Jobs, was originally a placeholder, but it had stuck.
"We couldn’t really think of anything else and Pineapple Jobs is easy to remember, paints a picture in your head."
Bright yellow flyers had been sent all around Hāwea to encourage potential employers.
Ms Ballantyne said she could not be happier with the support the app had received so far.
"It was totally bizarre how fast it took off," she said.
Future updates for the app would include star ratings in payments and messaging as well. The duo hoped to turn it into a mobile app by the end of the year.
At present, Pineapple Jobs is accepting job offers only in Hāwea until updates in the app take place.
