Fire and Emergency New Zealand volunteer crews from Tarras, Luggate and Wanaka joined forces with helicopters carrying monsoon buckets to fight a ‘‘slow moving fire’’ in a paddock of barley beside State Highway 8A between Tarras and Luggate yesterday afternoon.

Fenz spokesman  Riwai Grace said the fire broke out  about 3.20pm and was brought under control shortly before 5pm. It was believed to have been started by ‘‘someone mowing a paddock’’.
