Wanaka bookworms took an emotional journey into a little understood part of Kiwi culture this week at the launch of a new book of creative writing by emerging Asian New Zealand writers.

Award-winning writers Alison Wong and Associate Prof Paula Morris have compiled and edited A Clear Dawn: New Asian Voices from Aotearoa New Zealand, which was published by the Auckland University Press this year.

The editors and Canterbury University musician Jeffrey Zhao opened their tour of the South Island by together making a visit to Next Chapters bookshop and Cinema Paradiso in Wanaka.

The book is packed full of historical and contemporary stories, creative non-fiction and poetry by 75 writers.

The anthology features writers from multiple heritages, including China, India, Korea and the Philippines.

Some were born in other places, some were born in New Zealand and some of those had ancestors reaching back to the 19th century.
