Pizza Hut has confirmed it wants a slice of the fast-food action in Wānaka.

The company has lodged a resource consent application with Queenstown Lakes District Council to build in Three Parks, potentially joining the town’s first McDonald's.

It was reported in October that the fast-food chain was looking at sites in Three Parks.

Three Parks owner and Willowridge director Allan Dippie said he did not expect any community backlash about the fast-food outlets coming to town.

Strong community opposition this year scuppered McDonald’s first bid to build a restaurant at Mt Iron at the entrance to the lakeside hotspot.

Its second application — for a 450.4sqm McDonald’s restaurant and drive through near the BP service station at Three Parks —  is awaiting council approval.

The new application is for a six-metre high, single- level restaurant building  with seating for 75 diners that will be open 24 hours daily — the first of its kind in Wanaka.
