Quacking on

Throwing lots of plastic into a mountain stream is usually frowned upon, but not when it is the Wanaka Rotary Club's duck race fundraiser.

More than a thousand little yellow ducks were dropped into Bullock Creek on Saturday, along with 250 big ducks in fancy dress, sponsored by Wanaka businesses.

Rotary fundraising director Mike Elliot said about $16,000 to $17,000 was raised, boosted by growing interest from businesses - one having already backed its duck again for next year.
