Tess Hurndell plans to achieve her goal of raising $5000 by walking between Breast Hill and Breast Peak in Hāwea next month through the encouragement of sponsors donating to her cause.
Miss Hurndell, a regular hiker, said despite the large distance, she was well prepared.
"I know it will be super tough but I have the ability to complete it," she said.
The fundraising initiative Ascent for Awareness was inspired by witnessing the struggle of cancer diagnoses of her father, cousin and several close friends’ families.

Miss Hurndell thought of the initiative last year when hiking Breast Hill in Lake Hāwea and noticed Breast Peak a manageable distance away.
"I only need 300 people of Queenstown’s 53,800 to donate $15 and I will be able to reach my goal," she said.
By reaching her goal of $5000, Miss Hurndell will walk 160km over the course of a month.
In a Breast Cancer Foundation NZ fundraising page, Miss Hurndell said the need for funding was urgent.
"Female health is often underfunded and affects one in nine New Zealand women throughout their lifetime.
"The Peak-To-Peak Challenge Fundraiser is a sponsored journey dedicated to raising awareness and critical funds for the Breast Cancer Society," she said.
All money raised from the month-long event will go directly to the Breast Cancer Foundation NZ.
