General manager Catherine Bone said ‘‘a handful of guests could not get back to wherever they needed to get to’’ so they stayed in the apartments that had cooking facilities and shopped for food at the supermarkets.
‘‘We are very fortunate here as we have so much space.
‘‘We are right on the lakefront, there are no lifts and when you step outside your door you are in the fresh air so there was never any danger of being too near to someone else.’’
Ms Bone said they had been having a ‘‘fabulous season’’ before lockdown with guests from Australia and the North Island, but they were ‘‘very lucky’’ in being well supported by Southland, Canterbury, the rest of the South Island and locals.
She said they would be opening the doors at 8am tomorrow and were expecting a big demand on their coffee and scones.
