Second pupil shows meningococcal symptoms

A second Mount Aspiring College pupil has been admitted to hospital with suspected meningococcal disease.

The Year 12 pupil was taken to Christchurch Hospital yesterday after experiencing meningococcal-like symptoms.

She was taken to Christchurch because the Intensive Care Unit in Dunedin Hospital was full.

Last week another female pupil from Wanaka's Mount Aspiring College was admitted to Dunedin Hospital with meningococcal disease.

Public Health South medical officer of health Marion Poore said there was no obvious link between the two cases.

In a letter to parents school principal Wayne Bosley said the school would continue to operate as normal and senior exams scheduled for this week would go ahead.
