The Wanaka Squash Club has been given $20,000 by the Central Lakes Trust to conduct a feasibility study on the building of new courts and club building.
It is not the only sports club in the Upper Clutha looking to build bigger facilities — both the Wanaka Yacht Club and the Upper Clutha Rugby Club have announced plans to expand.
Wanaka Squash Club building committee chair Mick Hollyer said while the feasibility study would look at all options for building a new court, Three Parks was an area the club considered appropriate for a new squash complex.
With just two courts and more than 100 members, the club would be future proofed by building two more courts.
"We have a particularly strong junior membership and ...they are the future and lifeblood and we see four courts — it’s logical there would be a considerable increase in membership."
In May, the Wanaka Yacht Club announced its plans for a $1.6million upgrade to its clubrooms on the shores of Lake Wanaka, to cope with its rapidly growing membership. A increasing junior membership has also lead to the Upper Clutha Rugby Club to draw up plans for an extension to its clubrooms and facility.
