Long-distance swimmer Jackson Arlidge of Wellington has called off his attempt to be the first male to swim Lake Wānaka in togs. Arlidge told the Wānaka Sun this week he made the call as the lake temperature was too low and starting to fall off. He is aiming to swim Lake Taupō instead and will reassess a Wānaka attempt next season. The first man to complete the swim was Wānaka coach Cameron Stanley, in 2020, in a wetsuit.
