
The Hokitika marker will celebrate the town's goldrush and port history.
It will be located at the Gibson Quay viewing platform at the end of Tancred St which overlooks the Hokitika River.
Westland District Council chief executive Simon Bastion said the launch date had been confirmed for February 14.
The council was working with Heritage Hokitika to tidy up the area in the lead up to the launch.
"It's lapsed over the years so we're working with the on ensuring that on February 14 the place will be in good condition for that launch."
Road closures have also already been advertised. The entire area will be completely closed to vehicles from Sewell, Tancred and Hamilton streets.
The multi-agency government Tohu Whenua programme was launched three years ago to tell the stories of the regions.
The Hokitika Tohu Whenua pou, or post, site was chosen to highlight the historic port and commercial area, which enabled the rapid growth of the town during the 1860s on the promise of gold.
The Custom House and replica weighbridge add to the Hokitika Port experience.
Interpretation panels are also planned for the site to acknowledge the early history of the town and port.
