One person has died after a car went over the side of a bridge on the West Coast.
The crash on State Highway 6 at Karangarua involved just one vehicle.
Police said the crash happened about 4.55pm today at the Mai Mai Creek bridge, between Hunts Beach Rd and Hobson Creek Rd.
A spokesperson for St John ambulance confirmed that one person had died.
Rescue helicopters were initially called, but then stood down.
The Serious Crash Unit had been advised.
