Young athletes turned out in droves as the South Island Colgate Games began yesterday at the Caledonian Ground.

Nearly 900 competitors aged 7 to 14 from around the country are at the annual children’s athletics meeting.

The meeting continues today and concludes tomorrow afternoon.
