Former Invercargill City Council chief executive Clare Hadley has a new job.

Mrs Hadley has been named in the newly created role of general manager of the Manuherekia Catchment Group (MCG).

MCG co-chairwoman Anna Gillespie was enthusiastic about the appointment.

"We had some great candidates for the general manager position, and the recruitment process was extensive," she said in a release.

"We’re thrilled to have Clare join us, bringing her significant experience and mana to the role. We’re confident she will excel in the challenges ahead."

MCG co-chairman Andrew Paterson said MCG aimed to fulfil its vision of a thriving community united in creating a sustainable, healthy and balanced environment by leading through example, being action-orientated, and collaborating closely with the community and partners.

"Clare will be a driving force to help us achieve our vision and will serve as an important central point of contact," he said.

Mrs Hadley has extensive leadership experience, having spent the last 15 years in three chief executive roles at Rangitikei District, Nelson City and Invercargill City Councils.

She said she was looking forward to meeting people, building connections and learning on the job.

"I’ve never been afraid to ask important questions and get things moving.

"My time in local and unitary government has taught me that everything starts with getting to know one another and focusing on shared visions."

She recently spent a day with members of the Group in the catchment.

"Visiting the catchment, getting to know the area and having the benefit of Roger Williams’ expertise was inspiring," she said.

Mrs Hadley was the chief executive at the Invercargill City Council from 2018 but left early last year when her five-year contract was not renewed.
