Mr Coe led Southland Boys’ for almost eight years.
In a statement released yesterday he said he was hugely proud of Southland Boys’.
"The school has a strong sense of identity and rightly stands tall within the Southland community — where its students wear the school crest with pride," Mr Coe said.
Under the rector’s tenure, Southland Boys’ High School achieved higher NCEA results in 2023 than the national average, and higher than all boys in Southland, "thanks to the establishment of the Southland Boys’ High School Club in 2018".
The school created the club with the aim that all pupils were required to get NCEA credits with excellence, an undertaking he was "very proud of".
School board co-chairperson Chami Abeysinghe praised Mr Coe for leaving the school in a "strong position".
"Simon leaves a great legacy. Successful, well-rounded young men graduate from Southland Boys’ High School with the skills they need to succeed in life," she said.
Mr Coe said it had been rewarding to "be involved in a busy and active boys’ school" and he regarded the period as "immense".
"I wish the school the best in the future, and know that its strong heart will carry it on to bigger and better things."
