The winners of the Central Indoors Bowls Sub-centre Anzac Day charity tournament are (from left) Joanne Wilson, Elaine Dawson and Vanessa Dawson. The tournament raised $1678 towards Age Concern Southland’s virtual headset project.

Sixteen teams from throughout Southland took part in the tournament and played four games lasting 30 minutes each.

The winning team won all four of its games.

Sub-centre president Dermot Fennelly said the tournament had run for more than 20 years and always supported a worthy cause.

In indoor bowls men and women could compete equally.

“It’s not really a strength sport.

“It’s really an accuracy sport.”

Sub-centre secretary Tracey McElligott did a very good job organising the event, Mr Fennelly said.
