A charity that bakes for the needy has expanded in the South and needs some more cooks in its kitchen.
The Gore and Balclutha chapter of Good Bitches Baking (GBB) has recently expanded its clientele and is on the look out for some more home-bakers.
The charity provides fresh baked goods for those in need such as the Gore & Clutha Whānau Refuge, Cancer Society, Age Concern and Able Minds.
They recently added Whānau Refuge’s Clutha clients to their list, so they need more cooks to lighten the load.
Volunteer leader Sarah Mosely said there were 28 bakers in the chapter.
They do general baking, something that is easy to divvy up, sometimes making up to 10 boxes of goods per week.
"We’re looking to take some pressure off the ones who are doing a lot of baking," Ms Mosely said.
She said the roster was relaxed and receiving the gratitude and positive feedback from clients was a "nice touch".
Gore & Clutha Whānau Refuge executive officer Fiona Haslemore said her clients were often not in a situation where they could bake for themselves.
She said for families in difficult circumstances, fresh home-made baking could brighten up their day.
"When you’ve got trauma, stress and financial pressures and everything else, just a little bit of extra something can go a long way," she said.
It was good for filling up children’s lunch boxes too, she said.
Ms Haslemore said the bakers put "kindness" notes in with the goods too, like inspirational quotes, which they appreciated.
Ms Mosely said when she started baking for GBB it was nice to enjoy her favourite hobby, without the pressure of it going to waste.
"You get the joy of baking without the guilt of not eating it all," she said.
