Pupils transform a dream to reality.
Coby Swain and cousins RJ and Ashton Beale, all 10, have finally got their wheels on a new scooter ramp.
On Friday, West Gore School hosted a build-a-thon to construct a quarter pipe and a 6m-long box.
Local businesses supported the project by supplying their time, labour and materials to the build.
Ms Prattley said the trio had worked extremely hard during the past five months.
"They had a couple of jumps here at school that weren’t quite cutting the mustard.
"So they decided that they would love to build their own."
Pursuing the project had developed the pupils’ confidence and communication skills.
The project was part of the school’s learning through exploration initiative, she said.
The new equipment would be a huge asset to the tamariki and school community, she said.
RJ said the new ramp would help them improve their scooter skills.
"I’ll probably tail whip first.
"I’m very excited."
They had raised over $2600 for the project, he said.
"That makes us pretty happy."
Sausages, home baking and ice blocks were sold on the day to raise the remaining funds needed.
Another $1000 was raised from that initiative.
Construction of the ramp started at 8am and finished at 12.20pm.
