Eastern Land Search and Rescue is looking for volunteers after a successful community effort in finding a missing man.
The organisation will hold a meeting at the Gore Library next week.
Chairman Lindsay Eunson said he was impressed by the community turnout to find Brian Sheppard in late August. He wanted to know if any of those people involved wanted to join Search and Rescue.
He said they had "spontaneous volunteers" turn up who might be good for some of the jobs.
He said there were different types of searches.
"You’ll have ones like the other night, when we’re walking the streets ... and then real gnarly searches, where you have to carry a pack and be self-sustainable for 24 hours.
"There will be a level of fitness [required], but it depends on the types of searches that we have.
"We’re also looking for management support people, who are inside headquarters entering data on computers, and we’re also looking for anyone who has got emergency management experience," he said.
Mr Eunson said the positions were all voluntary. It could be an opportunity to make a difference in life and death scenarios.
The position involved a lot of commitment.
"We train monthly and at a moment’s notice we get called out."
Anyone interested in going above and beyond for their community should head to the Gore Library next Wednesday at 6pm.
