With the season starting earlier than usual to cater for Parafed athletes in the city for a training camp, shot putter Jess Hamill showed she is in fine form, setting a New Zealand record.
Hamill had only chalked up the standing record last week with 7.01m in the F34 shot put but she went further on Saturday extending the record to 7.14m.
Hamill is part of the eight-strong team training in Dunedin for the International Paralympic Committee championships in Qatar later this month.
The team appears to be peaking nicely and javelin thrower Rory McSweeney set an Otago record in the F44 javelin.
McSweeney notched up a 51.8m to grab the Otago record.
Hugh McLeod-Jones recorded 48.21m in his javelin throw and backed that up with a shot out of 15.37m.
Todd Bates showed some early season form with a throw of more than 50m in the hammer.
On the track, Scott Murfitt and Liam Malone had a tight battle in the 100m, with Murfitt winning in a time of 11.43sec with Malone only just behind him in a time of 11.44sec.
Felix McDonald was third in the 100m with a time of 11.83sec.
Mel Aitken, who usually races much longer distances on the road, had a turn on the track on Saturday, competing both in the 1500m and the 5000m events.
She managed to make it home in 5min, 15.8sec for the 1500m and recorded a time of 18min, 8.3sec for the 5000m.
