Madaline Spence continued her record breaking season at the Otago championships at the weekend.

She broke Alexandra Skerten's 2010 Otago record (women's 17 years) in the 400m hurdles by 0.60sec at the Caledonian Ground.

It was Spence's second Otago record of the season, after she broke Megan Gibbons' (nee Merrilees) women's 17 years 300m hurdle record before Christmas.

Spence clocked 63.85sec on Saturday to win the senior women's race.

The Hill City University long hurdler also finished second behind Stacey Dennison in the junior women's 400m, finishing in 59.50sec.

Spence was not the only athlete to set Otago records during the weekend.

Taieri hurdler Felix McDonald (17) broke Christopher Barton's 25 year old Otago record (men's 17 years) in the 300m hurdle.

McDonald shaved 0.20sec off Barton's record to clock 39.40sec and live up to his title as the top ranked 300m hurdler for his age in the country.

He also won the junior men's 200m in 23.02sec, and the men's youth long jump with a 6.53m leap.

Sam Gouverneur (14), of Taieri, broke Ben Jowsey's 2008 Otago record in the men's 14 years 800m.

Gouverneur, who was awarded the Nick Willis scholarship for his outstanding performance at the Colgate Games in Dunedin last month, crossed the line in 2min 01.74sec.

He finished second behind Liam Turner (16), of Winton, but did enough to break Jowsey's record.

Anna Grimaldi (18), of Taieri, set an AWD New Zealand and Otago record in the long jump, beating her own record with a 5.29m jump.

The jump also gives her an A qualifier ahead of the 2015 IPC athletics world championships in Qatar in October.

Richard Nelson Parker (21), of Taieri, also set an AWD New Zealand and Otago record in the long jump, managing a 4.59m jump.

Among other notable performances:Peter Meffan (Caversham) recorded a comfortable win in the senior men's 3000m race on Saturday. Meffan was the firm favorite ahead of the race and was never seriously threatened as he finished in 8min 28.67sec.

Christina Ashton (Taieri) had good wins in the junior women's 100m race and 100m hurdles.

Tori Peeters (Taieri) won the senior women's javelin with a 49.55m throw.

Todd Bates (Taieri) won the senior men's hammer throw despite delivering only one legitimate throw (48.58m).

Rory O'Neill (Ariki) won the junior men's 100m and 200m races.

Caitlyn George (Hill City University) won the youth women's long jump and 200m race.

Oli Chignell (Hill City University) comfortably won the junior men's 1500m and 3000m races.
