John McGlashan College year 8 pupil Grayson Westgate raced to victory in the Ariki Cup event at Kettle Park yesterday.

The event is open to runners from schools around the South Dunedin and Otago Peninsula area.

The year 7 and 8 trophy was won by Tahuna Normal Intermediate for boys and Kavanagh College for girls.

St Clair was the winning school in the year 5 and 6 grade.

Individual winners were:

Girls - year 5, Anya Rhodes (Portobello); year 6, Catherine Lund (Macandrew Bay); year 7, Jade Fairweather (Kavanagh); year 8, Erika Fairweather (Kavanagh).

Boys - year 5, Hugh Jack (Macandrew Bay); year 6, Joe Parkinson (Portobello); year 7, Cole Gibbons (Tahuna); year 8, Grayson Westgate (John McGlashan).
