Forward Nathan Hanna has been chosen in the 12-man squad to contest the Fiba under-18 Asian Championship in August.
The tournament in Bangkok acts as the qualification pathway for next year’s under-19 world championships.
Hanna, a year 13 pupil at Otago Boys’ High School, has had an impressive season to date.
A key player on the Otago under-19 side, he has also been one of the form players in the men’s club competition playing for the Magic Lions.
He is joined by former North Otago player Max de Geest.
The guard moved to Christchurch for his last years of school and has impressed for the Canterbury Rams in this year’s NBL.
Coaching the side is Dunedin’s Gavin Briggs.
Briggs was the assistant coach for last year’s team, which went to the world championships after beating Australia to qualify.
Former Otago Nugget Miles Pearce, who now coaches in Manawatu, is an assistant coach.
