Shaun Scott continued his golden season when he played a key role in North East Valley's win in the national men's interclub sevens at Wellington last weekend.
The national singles champion and new international won his five singles games to give North East Valley its first win in the event.
North East Valley won with 22 points (+92) from Stoke (Nelson) 18 (+42), Hillcrest (Waikato) 18 -8), Heretaunga (Hawkes Bay) 16 (+26), Carlton Cornwall (Auckland) 8 (-58), Paraparaumu Beach (Kapiti Coast) 8 (-94).
The 27 bowls centres in New Zealand contest the event.
North East Valley qualified by winning the Bowls Dunedin final and the zone six regional final to get to Wellington.
The only other Bowls Dunedin club to win the annual event was Fairfield, the top club in the country in 1998 and 2002.
It has been a magic season for Shaun Scott, who won the New Zealand championship singles title at Dunedin in January and represented New Zealand for the first time in the transtasman series at Invercargill.
The pairs combination of Colin Wheeler and former international Jim Scott won four games.
Their only loss was to the Nelson team of Stoke, 20-15, in the fourth round.
The fours team of Kelvin Budge, Josh Freeman, Andy McLean and Terry Scott won two of their five games.
North East Valley held second spot behind Heretaunga after two of the five rounds and took the lead in the third round.
It was level pegging with Heretaunga after the penultimate round.
Both teams had 16 points (+48).
All the North East Valley teams stepped up to the plate on the fifth and final round with Shaun Scott beating Heretaunga 21-13, the pairs combination beating Paraparaumu Beach 26-5, and the fours beating Carlton Cornwall 25-10.
