Indoor bowls: Four Otago players named in South Island team

Four Otago players have been included in the South Island team that leaves this week on an eight-match tour of the North Island.

The team will be managed by long-time West Otago-based administrator David Edgar.

It will play matches against North Wellington, Horowhenua- Hutt Valley, Upper Hutt Valley, a combined Bush Ruahine-Wairarapa selection, Hawkes Bay-Poverty Bay, Bay of Plenty, Wanganui and Manawatu at venues around the central and southern North Island.

The tour culminates in the annual inter-island match for the Kevin Eddy Memorial Trophy in Lower Hutt on August 16.

The last time a South Island team toured the bottom half of the North Island, in 2004, it won five, drew one and lost two matches.

MenSingles: Mathew Begg (Central Otago); pairs: Chris Matthews (Canterbury), Daniel French (Otago); triples: Owen Ditfort (Canterbury), Michael Lawson (Ashburton), Hayden Warnes (Nelson); fours: Mark Keen (Southland, captain); Ashley Diamond (Southland), Fred Persico (Nelson), Brent Keen (Southland).
