Sarah (27) was taken to the green at a young age by her parents, Terry and Donna, and was on the sidelines when her father won the New Zealand singles title at Christchurch.
"I was aged 7 at the time and remember being at the green," Sarah said.
"But I don't remember much about the game."
As a pupil at Kavanagh College she finished runner-up in the singles to Angela Boyd (Napier Girls) in the New Zealand secondary schools singles in 2001.
Boyd was a member of the winning women's fours team at the national championships in Dunedin in January.
Sarah, who spent two years in Ireland and Scotland after completing a zoology degree at the University of Otago, returned to Dunedin late last year and joined the North East Valley club to play with her parents and Uncle Jim.
"I practise two or three nights a week at the club after work and play interclub on Saturday," Sarah said.
"There is a big mental aspect to the game. I would like to play as well as Dad.
Steven Gould (20) won the Otago indoor bowls triples title with his father in 1999 but this was his first lawn bowls title. He has represented Otago at indoor bowls.
His brother, Kristen, won the New Zealand under-18 singles title in 2006.
