Albion, Oamaru lead holiday competition

Albion and Oamaru lead the Dick Hunt T20 holiday competition standings after wins over Glenavy and Valley on Friday night.

Valley batted first against Oamaru at Whitestone Contracting Oval, reaching 121 for six in its allocated 20 overs.

George Mavor contributed 21 not out, including three boundaries.

Quinn Wardle took three for 24 off his four overs for the home side, while younger brother Hunter took two for 11 off his three.

Oamaru looked to be in trouble, being three wickets down, with only 20 runs on the board, before the Wardle brothers resurrected the innings.

They put on 64 for the fourth wicket before the loss of Hunter for 24.

Quinn Wardle was then joined by Sarel Smit (19 not out) to see their side through to 122 for four in the 16th over and a six-wicket win. Quinn Wardle was 47 not out at the completion of the innings.

At Glenavy, Albion had a comfortable 100-run victory after recording 180 batting first.

Glenavy struggled in its chase and was well short of victory, making only 80.

After two rounds, Oamaru and Albion (both 10 points) lead the points table. Glenavy and Union (both 5 points) are close behind, while Valley is yet to register a point.
