A one-day international was earmarked for March 6 at Westpac Stadium, the same day the Hurricanes are expected to play a Super 14 fixture.
The Dominion Post newspaper today reported the one-dayer may be switched to the Basin, the traditional home of Wellington cricket.
Westpac Stadium chief executive David Gray confirmed negotiations for the Basin to hold the one-dayer had been held but no decision had been made.
Tests are still played at the 11,600 capacity Basin but it stopped hosting one-dayers after Westpac Stadium opened in 2000.
Since then just one ODI has been played at the Basin.
In 2005 New Zealand hosted Australia there after the match was transferred from Hamilton because the Westpac Park pitch was deemed to be substandard.
